昨日、佛教大学の学園祭（鷹陵祭）に招かれ、琵琶説教をしてきました。私の母校になります。平成１０年の卒業ですので、大方 ２０年ぶりに寄せていただきました。
当時とは、全く違う雰囲気に驚きました。私が学んでいた校舎は駐車場になっており、お世話になった学生食堂の場所が礼拝堂に変わり … まさに諸行無常・・・浦島太郎の気分でした。考えたら、私が卒業した時に生まれた子達が 学生をしてる計算になります。よい意味での諸行無常・・・進歩がなければダメなわけです。
礼拝堂で講演をしました
「七年後あなたは何歳になっていますか？」というお話です。
面白い会話が行われていた。十八歳の少女と、経験豊かな老人との対話である。老人は少女の人生の方向、特にどんな分野の職業を目指しているかについて尋ねた。少女は答えた。「そうですね、私は心理学者になりたいんですけど、そのためには長いこと勉強をしなければなりませんから、なったところで年を取りすぎているんじゃないかと心配なんです」賢明なる老人はしばらく黙って座っていた。それから微笑んで、こう聞いた。「お嬢さん、心理学者になるには何年かかるのですか？」「七年くらいです」と少女。「七年経つとあなたは何歳になっていますか？」「二十五歳です」それから老人はこう尋ねた。「心理学者にならなかったら、七年後あなたは何歳になっていますか？」当然ながら、少女の答えは同じだった。「二十五歳ですけど」（『あきらめなかった人々』 デニス・キンブロ 著 ナポレオン・ヒル 著 田中 孝顕 訳 きこ書房）
何かを成しえるのも、何者かになるのも、時間がかかるものです。しかし、何もしなくても時間は経過するということを忘れがちです。私も琵琶をしなければ、生涯 母校に行くことはなかったかもしれません。２０年経てば ２０歳年をとる。 人の評価なんて二の次です。そんなことを考えだしたら 何もできません。大切なのは、２０年分成長しているかどうか。批評家は ２０年間成長しないというリスクは、意外と見えていなかったりします。自分にできることをコツコツしていけばいいのです。
我々は２０年後、何をしてるのでしょうか？ 人によっては「もう死んでるよ」 と 乾いた笑いが聞こえてきそうですが、ならば それに伴う準備や信仰が必要だと思います。人生はアッという間だなぁ … と感じる今日この頃です。合掌
