今回は時間もありませんので、稲垣栄洋氏の言葉を紹介して 座に戻ります。
植物にとって根っこは水や養分を吸収したり、体を支えるための大切な器官である。
根っこがなければ、植物はたちまち干上がってしまうし、根っこが十分に張っていないと、茎が簡単に倒れてしまう。
同様に、人間にとっても「根っこ」は大切なものだ。
「根気」や「根性」「根本」など、「根」という言葉が人の本質を表すことからもそれがわかる。
それでは、その根はいつ伸びるのだろうか。
水栽培されているヒヤシンスなどを見ると、短い根が出ているだけで、根っこはあまり伸びていないし、細かい根はほとんど生えていない。
水が十分にある条件では、必要以上に根を伸ばす必要がないのだ。
水がないところでは、植物の根は水を求めてグッと深く伸びる。
そして、四方八方に張りめぐらされた根が、大地をしっかりとつかむのである。
根が成長するのは、条件に恵まれたときではない。
苦しいときにこそ、根が伸びるのだ。
恵まれたときは、茎を伸ばしたり葉を茂らせるのに忙しくて、根は伸びている暇がない。
干されたときこそが成長のチャンスである。
土の下に伸びた根っこは、目に見えないがその植物の実力そのものである。
毎日、水を与えている庭の草花が夏の日照りで萎れているのに、誰も水をやらない道ばたの雑草は青々と茂っている。
日照りにあったときに、その植物の真の強さがわかる。
雑草に水をやる人はいない。
けっして恵まれた条件に生えているとはいえない。
だからこそ、毎日、水を与えられている草花とは根の張り方が違うのである。

大事な「根っこ」は 目に見えないところで育っています。ハレな環境が調っているから機嫌がいいのではなく、どんな条件でも上機嫌でありたいものです。仏は見てござる・・・これが修行の真骨頂です。
追伸：文面柄 … 私は干された環境ではありませんよ（笑）。修行はみんな大変です。住職と行者、お手伝いの方々が円滑に進むよう、四方八方に「根」を張り巡らして頑張っています＾＾！
修行は南無阿弥陀仏を唱え、礼拝を三千回します。 五体（両膝・両肘・頭）を 地に着け、立ち座りを 繰り返します。
