現在、南朝鮮で冬季オリンピックが行われています。今までの努力を発揮するため、アスリートがコンディションを調え、懸命に打ち込む姿に感動を覚えます。テレビであっても 選手の鼓動が聞こえる気がして、こちらの方がドキドキしてしまいます（笑）。昨晩は パシュート女子が見事、金メダルを獲りました！。会見で互いの敬意、周りへの感謝等を拝聴すると、自然と応援させらる気持ちになります。同じ競技でも、責任の押し付け合いをしてる某国の状況と比較すると、日本の素晴らしさが浮き彫りとなる形となりました。同じ頑張りでも、応援させる人、応援したくない人が出てくるのは不思議です。
” 応援 ” について、千田琢哉氏が興味深いことを述べられています。
テレビのお笑い芸人たちを観察していると、非常にわかりやすい事実が浮き彫りになってくる。すぐに消える一発屋は例外なく観客から笑われているのに対して、出世する芸人は観客を笑わせている。前者は素人の学園祭レベルの芸であり、後者はプロの仕事師の芸である。観客が笑っているという現象において両者に差はないように見えるが、その本質はまるで対極なのだ。プロの仕事とは、その気のない人をその気にさせてしまうことなのだ。笑う気のないブスッとした客さえも笑わせてこそ、お笑い芸人としてプロの仕事をしたと言えるのだ。
これは応援についても同じことが言える。あなたは応援される人ではなく、応援させる人を目指すべきである。あなたが応援されているということは、相手が上であなたが下だという揺るぎない地位が固定されるということだ。つまり同情されているということになる。同情されて応援されてもその関係は決して長続きしない。なぜならそれは、“憐れみ”をベースとした関係であり、どちらか一方が堪えられなくなって崩壊するからである。人には尊敬されたいという確固たる承認欲求があるのだから、これに反する行為は自然の摂理に反するから継続できないのだ。これに対して応援させるためには、敬意をベースとした関係を築いていく必要がある。相手に同情させるのではなく、敬意を払わせることで自然と相手に応援させるのだ。世界的に活躍するカリスマ歌手や作家を想像してみればとてもわかりやすいだろう。ファンたちは彼らを応援しているのではなく、応援させていただいているのだ。もちろん長期的な成功者たちはファンに応援をさせることで傲慢にはならない。（『大好きなことで、食べていく方法を教えよう』海竜社）
もちろん、オリンピック選手はプロではないので、応援されるために競技をされているわけではありません。今は 自分との戦いだと存じます。どのような結果であれ、一つの物を極めた方は賞賛される存在です。しかし 人生全体として考えると、それは通過点です。仏教の世界でも一緒です。千日回峰（せんにちかいほう）という過酷な修行をされた阿闍梨（あじゃり）でも、悟後（ごご）の修行が大切と言います。
最近思うのは、今、懸命に打ち込める環境があるのは、自分の力もありますが、やはり周りの尽力があってのこと。ここを見失えば、才能による一瞬の輝きがあっても、時間と共に 誰も応援してくれなくなります。毎日の食事、交通機関、仕事、寝る場所、日常の会話、ちょっとした親切・・・決して当たり前の環境ではありません。その中で「自分は頑張っているのに、誰も気付いてくれない。周りが馬鹿だ！」・・・それは嘘です。そんな人は、どの環境に逃げても不満だらけ・・・我利我利亡者（がりがりもうじゃ）の餓鬼に過ぎません。

感謝やご恩、ありがとうやお陰さま・・・ここを大切にすれば、神仏をはじめ、ご先祖さま、有縁の方々が必ず応援してくれます。この真理は、憐れみや同情を超えて、敬意をベースにした関係に繋がっていくのです。またそれが 僧侶の本来あるべき姿だと肝に銘じます。その凛とした心の持ちようが、 ” 応援させる人 ” になることと存じます。合掌
